FAQ: Common questions about GLT alternatives

Are GLT products 1:1 identical to GGB?

The designations are used for comparison. GLT products are comparable in material, design type, dimensions and typical applications, but are not “original replacement parts” in the trademark sense. A technical check for the specific application is recommended.

Which information does GLT need for a reliable recommendation/release?

For a quick technical review please provide: dimensions/design type, load (radial/axial), motion type (rotating/oscillating/axial), speed, temperature range, lubrication (dry/oil/grease), environmental conditions (dirt, moisture, chemicals), counterface material and surface finish.

Can I lubricate TEF-MET® even though it is maintenance-free?

In many applications additional lubrication is possible and may offer benefits depending on operating conditions (e.g. cooling, dirt removal). Whether lubrication is useful should be assessed for the specific application.

When should I choose TEF-MET®/P instead of TEF-MET®?

TEF-MET®/P can be a good choice when the application is predominantly operated with lubrication and stable performance under lubrication is the priority. The lubrication concept, temperature and load should be considered for a safe selection.

Are TEF-MET®/P or TEF-MET® leaded?

Unlike some comparable GGB variants, GLT composite bearings are not separated into “leaded” and “lead-free” versions. Both variants are manufactured exclusively as lead-free versions.

I have special dimensions / demanding loads — what should I do?

Send us the dimensions, load, motion type (rotating/oscillating), temperature and lubrication concept. Our application engineers will check the selection and recommend a suitable GLT solution.
